Designed and Engineered This Home Theater
Something dramatic. Not too elaborate. It has to sound great.
It can't cost too much.
Contradictory requirements, but a part
of real life nonetheless. A theater project can be costly, and most
people have to stretch their budget. This project was no different.
The customer, DS, wanted to invest
once in a theater, and be able to enjoy it for years to come. Since
he was upgrading an existing space in his home, he was able to have
some flexibility in layout.

Range Acoustics
Powerful speakers sound great, but they shake the walls of your
theater. DS was able to use WallDamp in the construction of his
theater. Adding damping to his walls reduced the thunder and shudder
of low bass, creating a tight powerful sound. You can't see the
WallDamp, but turning down this 20-80Hz bass all by itself makes
the midrange and highs sound cleaner.
Above the wall surface, ASC recommended
some standard products, arranged in a dramatic styling.
For control of bass and midrange, the
TubeTraps were used. Quarter Round versions were specified, so they
could blend into the overall design.
For treble control and diffusion,
specially modified CinemaPanels were added, marching across the
wall in a geometric pattern. One of the modifications were a series
of vertical reflectors under the fabric skin, that created lateral
diffusion. This diffusion creates additional ambiance, enveloping
the audience in holographic-like surround sound.
